AWP Intro Journals Award Win and Forthcoming Work in Reed Magazine

Haircuts

I’m elated that a recent poem from my thesis titled “Pandemic Haircuts” was awarded publication as part of the AWP Intro Journals Project. Reed Magazine, San José State University’s literary journal and California’s oldest lit mag, has selected the poem for an upcoming issue. The piece is about love, loss, and preservation in the time of coronavirus.

The AWP is the Association for Writers & Writing Programs, and my work was chosen by my professors to represent the MFA program at Bowling Green State University. The last time a BGSU MFA student won this award was 2007.

The Intro Journals Project is a literary competition for Creative Writing MFA students to have a shot at publication in participating journals. The AWP has about 500 member schools across the US and I share this honor with seven other poets from around the country. The complete list of winners can be found on the AWP website.
