Prior to emigrating from Canada in 2010, my love of music brought me to the world of radio broadcasting and I cut my teeth on the Windsor-Detroit airwaves as the Program Director and Volunteer Coordinator of my campus station (CJAM 99.1 FM), as a local music columnist for CBC (CBE AM 1550), and as a commercial jock on 89X (CIMX 88.7 FM). I was a DJ for nearly two decades, beginning in high school and continuing after my move to the US, but I hung up my headphones around 2015, shortly after becoming sober. Being away from friends and family during the coronavirus pandemic has inspired me to try and bring some joy to those I love during lockdown, which is why my husband Michael and I started the Safety Dance Virtual Dance Party series.

Our first event occurred last night and we had such a great time watching attendees shake it in front of their webcams and conversing with them through the chat feature. Michael and I both send a big thanks to those who stopped by to say hi! We plan to continue the series during these cold fall and winter months to bring a sense of community, fun, and normalcy back to people’s lives.
